How To Bake Cookies With Your Son

Sunday, James and I were finally able to bake cookies. I had previously told him three times that we would make cookies. Something always came up…like not having the right ingredients…or softened butter…etc. So Sunday after his nap we starting our first cookie baking adventure together. I sat him in his booster chair with a big bowl and all of the ingredients around him. He started to mix everything but didn’t like it when the flour got on him. I explained to him that it’s ok to get messy when you cook. He smiled then continued. Ha!
We made the Nestle Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe. I always use that one and they always turn out very delicious.
Ingredients:
Directions:
PREHEAT oven to 375° F.
COMBINE flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl. Beat butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar and vanilla extract in large mixer bowl until creamy. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
BAKE for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely.
The last part of the mix is adding the chocolate chips. I told James to put the chips in the dough. Now look at that face. Doesn’t he look trustworthy?
Nope. He tricked me more than once.
We had fun. I highly encourage cooking with your child. Even if it means he eats all of the chocolate chips.

Looks like his Aunt Diane when she makes cookies! hmmm
Hey, a bag of chocolate chips is a very good snack. I keep several on hand just in case.
