Lenovo IBM Laptop Low Microphone Sound

Last February I bought an IMB Lenovo 3000 N100 laptop.  Overall I like the computer.  It’s nice to take it where I want and most of all it is mine.  Having something all to yourself in a family of five is sometimes hard to come by.

Anyway, a couple of months ago my brother told me about Skype.  It’s an online way to talk to other people online.  “Make calls from your computer — free to other people on Skype and cheap to landlines and cell phones around the world.”  I saw that my laptop came with a built-in camera.  So I  downloaded Skype and called my brother online.  He could see me fine online but he couldn’t hear me well.  He said it sounded like my volume was very low.

I tried to adjust my microphone settings in the control panel.  That didn’t work.  I searched and searched and still couldn’t get the microphone to work right.  I even bought another microphone and it didn’t work either.  By the time I got around to calling IBM, I was two weeks past my warranty.  Grrrrr…they wouldn’t help me at all.  So I started to search the web.  I found out that this same problem was not uncommon.  Many people are asking about this issue but no one can figure out how to fix it.  I talked to the Geek Squad at Best Buy and they said to try a USB Sound Card.  I guess I can give it a shot.  If you think you know what can help, please let me know.  Personally I think that if it is a faulty laptop, then IBM should fix it, whether under warranty or not.

Click here to read one solution from IBM.  (It was not helpful for me.)

Here is what I’ve tried so far:

-to raise the levels under microphone

-to raise the levels under speakers (there is a microphone level there too.)

-checked the microphone in skype.

-borrowed a plug in microphone from my neighbor

-bought a usb microphone and switched it as a default

-updated the audio driver for Vista:
