St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Steph, James, Matthew and I walked in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Wilmington, NC.  It was a beautiful day, the temperature was in the mid 70’s.  We were walking in the parade for the March of Dimes.  Since we were actually in the parade, we had to arrive an hour early.  That is too long to leave James in the stroller, so I took him out and we walked up and down the street looking at all the other people, animals, cars, etc. in the parade.  There were some really nice classic cars, the best of which in my opinion was a mint 1965 Ford Mustang.  I talked to the owner and he said the car was all original, right down to the radio that still worked.  James and I also saw a bunch of rescued Greyhounds, a platoon of Marines, and some Irish dancers.  The most enjoyable thing we saw were the Port City Pipers, the local bagpiper group.  There is nothing like listening to the bagpipes.  It reminds me of one night long ago when Steph and I went to the North Carolina Highland Games.  The weekend was overcast and rainy.  We camped out on the grounds of the games.  Late that night the rain and thunder stopped and the sky cleared.  Lying in our tent came the most beautiful noise, a lone bagpiper playing Amazing Grace.  The beautiful sound echoed throughout the small valley. Anyway, back to the parade.  We also saw the Red Hat Ladies.  I love those Red Hat Ladies.  Everytime I see them, it seems as though they are having a great time.  I yelled “HELLO LADIES” to them.  They all turned with huge smiles and yelled back “HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY.”

The parade was fun.  Matthew slept the whole time, which was welcome.  James clapped back at the crowd, and waved.  He was very cute.  The whole experience was very enjoyable for all.
