French 312K University of Texas

To all of my loyal readers…I AM DONE!!

Last year, after taking French 1 and French 2 at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington (UNCW), I started searching for a French 3 course.  You see, I was a visiting student at UNCW and I took the classes over the summer.  I was unable to take the fall class due to the lack of childcare options and worry about going to class pregnant.  So I was lucky to find an online option through the University of Texas at Austin.

It was an extension course and was a little more expensive than I had hoped.  But besides going to UNCW, it was my only other option.  So I enrolled in the course.  (Remember, I need 3 semesters of a foreign language for my degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.)

I enrolled in July and had a very difficult time finding the books and cassettes for the class.  Yes, I said cassettes.  The class was a bit outdated but I won’t rehash my complaints and make everyone listen to them again.  I was able to finally start the class in September.

There were 14 lessons, a midterm and a final.  The midterm and final were to be taken at a testing center and needed to be proctored.  I took them at the UNCW Testing Center.  The class was based on a point scale and final grades were determined as follows:

3,300-2,970=A

2,969-2,640=B

2,639-2,310=C

2,309-1,980=D

fewer than 1,980=F

I received my final grade tonight and I am ecstatic to be done.  Finishing this foreign language requirement is a huge deal for me.  I had originally taken 2 semesters of Russian but as most of you know I had to leave college for military reasons.  It was nearly impossible to find a 3rd semester Russian course online or in Wilmington.  So, I decided to start with a new language and I’m glad I picked French.   French is a beautiful language and I hope to continue learning it throughout my life.

The end of the class was getting a bit stressful since I wasn’t sure when I would have the baby.  Somehow it worked out and I completed the class, and I’m still pregnant.  So thanks to everyone who supported me and put up with my complaining.  Now on to my next task…having a baby!!
