How to lose weight

Here is the deal on losing weight, or more importantly, losing fat percentage.  Most people think they have to skip meals, or eat a lot less.  This works in the short term, but in the long run makes you put on more fat weight.  Here is the secret.  Eat the right foods, and eat MORE meals every day.  When you skip meals, your body starts to store fat because it naturally doesn’t know why you missed a meal.  The more meals you skip, the more fat content your body will store to sustain itself.  What you need to do is eat breakfast, 2-3 hours later, eat a healthy snack, like an orange, banana, or apple, etc.  About two hours after that, eat lunch.  You should not be as hungry for lunch since you ate a snack.  Go through the day like this, completing after you have had 6 meals.  This keeps your body heat up and keeps your metabolism going strong.  Remember to try and eat healthy food.  It is ok to to eat some junk food, just limit your intake.  Also, it is important to do some sort of resistance muscle training.  The more muscle you have, the more fat you burn.  This doesn’t mean you have to be muscle bound.  Just doing push-ups and sit-ups at least 3 times a week will help.  And do not forget to do some sort of cardiovascular exercise to keep your heart healthy.

A great book to read about doing this kind of thing is the “Abs Diet” by David Zinczenko.  It is not a diet, just a way of living.  Try it out, and I guarantee you will feel better.

  1. Excellent advice. We watch this show on BBC about a woman who goes around trying to help overweight people. She teaches them how to eat. It’s interesting how many people don’t know that a bucket of fried chicken is bad for them. I’m not kidding. The woman lays out a week’s worth of their current diet across a table and the people are amazed that they are eating that poorly.

About the exercise…I try to find a sport that I love doing, like tennis or swimming. I found that I am more likely to stick with a sport to get my body going than regular exercise. In the past, I have found reasons not to go to the gym to work out, but when it comes to tennis, I’ll play at midnight in a snowstorm.

  2. I agree. I think playing a sport or participating in something active is key. I try to do the same thing. Even hiking or wall climbing are excellent healthful activities. Going to the gym gets boring, and you have all those bone-head guys trying to re-live their past.
