Ramblings of History and the future

Have you ever wondered about life on another planet?  Sometimes I like to drive down to the ocean early when the sun rises, and imagine what it was like a few thousand years ago before Europeans came to this country.  I am a descendant of a Native American, a Cherokee, and wonder if before European settlement one of my ancestors stood here on the sand looking out over the ocean, as far as one can see, just water, no ships, for what is a ship?  He or she would stare out over the beautiful water and wonder if there is life out there somewhere, another land like Turtle Island with humans similar to him, or different.  This is the same way I look at the sky at night today in modern times.  The stars go on forever, and I wonder if there is life on another planet somewhere, similar or different from me.  The comparisons of my ancestor a thousand years ago looking out over the ocean, and me looking at the sky tonight, really makes you think what life will be like a few thousand years from now.  A few thousand years from now, one of my great great great great great etc. grandchildren might look toward Earth from some distant planet and wonder about his ancestor, the one on August 13, 2007 who was looking up at the sky, just wondering.
