Oktoberfest in Germantown, MD

Yesterday we went to Oktoberfest and had a blast.  There were tons of booths set up and activities to do.  They also had food and live music.  (Two things I always enjoy)  We started walking around to check out the booths.  The pet hospital booth gave Matthew a Frisbee.  A church booth gave James a balloon.  A bank booth gave me two beaded necklaces.  Wow, what nice people.  We also visited the Germantown Recreational Department booth where James colored a balloon.  Next we went to the small pumpkin patch.  There, you could paint a pumpkin for $3.50.  I paid for James but I didn’t really think he would do it.  I was pleasantly surprised.  He put on the smock and just started painting away.  How cute!!  I was very proud of him.

We finally made it to the food.  Yippee!!  We grabbed some food and went to the beer tent.  I like to call it that even though I didn’t drink.  We sat in the back (since it was very loud) and listened and danced to the live band.  James was a dancing fool.

After dancing, we went to an open field and played Frisbee.  James figured out how to throw the Frisbee very well.  Unfortunately I still can’t figure it out.  :)

We ended our day with some ice-cream.  The deal was, that James and I would split an ice-cream cone.  Hmmm..somehow the little bugger stole it from me.

The event was free as was parking.  We were lucky with a great parking spot too.  We had a wonderful day.

Seneca Lake in Maryland

Here are a few pictures of Seneca Lake.  We like to take walks around the lake and look at the ducks and fish.  Steve even saw a beaver once.

The lake is private so no boating or swimming is allowed.  It does have a wonderful marked walking path around it though.  There is also a playground, tennis courts and a pool on the path.

Doing Senior Project

Number one, let me say I think this project is so pointless. Butttt anyways I am doing China: From Mao to Now (smart, huh), atleast do something that interests you. I’ll be mostly done by October 1st. Thank God.

So anyways, I  was looking into their military, and this is pretty scary. So apparently they have come a long ways since their Mao and Xiaoping days. Not only are their soldiers trained in like martial arts and stuff, but I came across this video that was a montage of their military parades.

<object width=”425″ height=”344″><param name=”movie” value=”http://www.youtube.com/v/9-rgPI5iGBg&hl=en&fs=1″></param><param name=”allowFullScreen” value=”true”></param><embed src=”http://www.youtube.com/v/9-rgPI5iGBg&hl=en&fs=1” type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” allowfullscreen=”true” width=”425″ height=”344″></embed></object>

Now, I know it’s a parade, but remember, this isn’t everything they have. This isn’t a joke. If they come rollin’ up on your country, especially one of those surrounding ones China is always looking at, you better start filling out those citizenship transfer forms ASAP.

Ever wonder…

Ever wonder what Matthew would look like with hair?

Yes, it’s that time of year again!!

As you can tell, he really enjoyed the new hairstyles.

Ok, you got me…this is the REAL reason I had kids.

South Germantown Recreation Fountain Park

On Labor Day, Steve and I took the boys to the local fountain park.  It was pretty cool there.  Kids were running through the water like crazy.  It was actually the last day they were open.

James was pretty terrified.  He didn’t end up running around.  I guess it was a little overwhelming.  A bunch of parents told me it takes a while for them to get used to it.  Since it was the last day, we will have to wait until next May when it reopens to bring them back.  Just think, by that time, Matt will be running around too.

FreeCycle

After moving to Maryland, I immediately signed up for freecycle.org.  I love Freecycle.  I started using it in Wilmington, then Chapel Hill, now here in Maryland.  The purpose of Freecycle is to keep things out of landfills.  Everything is FREE.  There should be no begging and no money involved.  People give away all sorts of things.  Such as used oil, furniture, clothing, electronics….anything.  Items can be broken or in working condition.  After signing up in your area, start listing stuff around the house you don’t want.  Maybe things you were planning to donate OR items you would normally throw out.  Think about it before you do…maybe someone out there could use it.

You can also ask for things.  I think they want asking for items to be no more than once a week.

So far I have given away about four boxes of baby clothing, a shower curtain, grilling utensils, a computer game and lots of moving boxes.  I “won” some child ID kits.  When I say “won” I mean someone offered these items and I replied saying I was interested.  I was chosen and then picked them up.  I filled out Matthew’s kit today and realized it is quite difficult to fingerprint a baby.  So much for all of that training.  Well, it’s not like I ever trained to fingerprint a baby.  I didn’t come across a lot of babies committing felonies.  Anyway…back on topic

I did asked for a glider rocking chair.  I thought it was a long shot but I figured I would try.  I already have one in James’ room but Matthew doesn’t have one.  I was contacted by someone who said she no longer needed theirs.  Awesome.  I picked it up and it looks great.  Now we can sit and read to both of them at night.  (Since their bedtimes are different.)

If you do decide to sign up, be prepared for a lot of emails.  This is not the type of thing for people who check their email once a week.  Also, I noticed a difference between Wilmington and here.  In Wilmington, they would like for you to wait 24 hours before choosing someone for your item.  (So everyone gets a fair chance)  Here, you better be fast or it’s gone.  I have seen things posted and gone within hours.   Either way, it is a great resource to help be Green.  Reduce, reuse, recycle…freecycle.

And the Winner is…

Big Daddy!!  He came closest with 21lbs 5oz.  Grandma G came close with 22lbs 3oz.  The correct weight is 21lbs 11oz.  Hmmm, I wonder how much of a difference it would have made if I fed him first.  So, his weight is the 94th percentile.  He is also 28 inches long/tall.  Which is the 87th percentile.  I don’t know the head measurement but it was the 96th percentile.  So that means only 4 percent of babies his age have a bigger head.  Interesting.

Guess Matt’s Weight

My little baby Matthew is going to the doctor on Wednesday.  He missed his last appointment with the move so we are going to catch up.  He hasn’t been weighed in 4 months.  Hmmm..can you guess how much he will weigh?  If you are one of the lucky ones who has held him recently, you know he is solid.  I am soooooo curious.  Ok, now comment with a guess.

Living in Maryland

Hi again.  Did you think we would ever come back to the blog?  Of course silly.

Well, here we are living in Maryland.  It feels like it took forever to get here.  I guess it didn’t really take THAT long.  We like it here in Germantown.  Steve is close to work and I discover something new every day.  Yes, yes, go ahead and joke about Home Depot.

So far I have taken James to the Little Gym, the public library, the walking path, the local mall, the county fair…and probably more.  Matt comes too but he just gets to sit and watch.  Keeping a two year old busy isn’t easy.

We will try to write more.  We’re still getting everything organized, so be patient.   Until next time!!

Just Plain Funny!

I took the boys to the park again the other day.  As I went to sit down on the bench I noticed something in the sand.  It was the head to an action figure.  The first thing that came to my mind was that it was a choking hazard.  So I picked it up and looked around for a garbage.  Then, I noticed something weird about the head.  It eerily resembled one of my siblings.   I kept staring at the head and just kept laughing.  It was really weird.  Here is a picture of it.

I can’t think of an action figure out there that could possibly look like “you know who.”  What do you think?
